On the rainy Saturday of the Boston Pride Celebration last year, I scheduled two appointments before the events I had planned to attend that day. One of them was with two of a group of three professional young men who’d had no idea that the South End was going to be taken over by the GLBT community that day. I had brought my enormous umbrella (tricky in the crowded streets) to show them the place they were interested in leasing. In spite of the crowds and the weather, the showing was the easiest part of the process. Jay, Will, and Jon travel a lot, so coordinating the signing of documents was the challenging part as after the showing, they were off to various destinations.
I checked in with Will recently and, as I often find the case, the group’s first impressions were correct and the place we found them works well as a fun, convenient, and comfortable home for them in between trips.

I spent an enjoyable evening Friday at the studio party given by Giovanni Decunto in the North End. Friends and relatives of his had gathered to eat, drink, and take a look at his recent works. The link above is for a YouTube video created earlier in his studio. An interesting mix of commissioned and non-commissioned projects ranging from sports figures, recognizable to everyone but me, to a Kennedy that I saw and had admired on my last visit, to his most recent work, influenced by social media. I had stopped by to see a friend on the way who considers himself to have an untrained eye and had asked me how I knew Giovanni was good. Seeing the new works with their focus on social media that evening gave me confidence in my reply: “He’s clearly classically educated and trained and uses his ability to connect clearly with what’s current and topical (Aktuell).

Haven’t re-blogged a Mansion of the day in a while, so here’s one I favor. Might need some work, but look at it. Almost chose a couple that were more recent than this, pricier, more tropical, and more modern conveniences. None made me want to pull out the checkbook until this one. Then I smiled. It’s from Sotheby’s. mansionoftheday:

Love in the world of real estate

When I travel abroad, the phrase I like to learn in the local tongue is ‘Thank you’. I went to a Brokers’ Open House today to preview a property for a client and mentioned my many business trips to Germany in idle conversation.
Several minutes later I replied automatically, ‘Ich liebe dich auch,’ when, as I was departing, the charming listing broker said, ‘Ich liebe dich—it’s the only thing I can say in German.’
I might have to rethink my custom.

Even on ‘steady red’ days, the Sports Club LA keeps me happy, healthy, & smiling. Centrally located on Avery Street downtown, it’s often convenient & always luxurious. Click through and ask Andy to extend a few days if you haven’t already.

From my reading secretary comes an article on the luxury market in Dallas, bringing back memories of car rides through River Oaks and the ticking hissing sounds of opulence in Texas—high volume lawn sprinklers.

It was a lovely Fall afternoon yesterday for my first showing with a new client interested in purchasing in Boston’s Back Bay. We were looking at an elegant two-bedroom on Marlborough Street. The parlor level views of trees in fall color from the bay window were warm and cozy in the late afternoon light.

It’s always a pleasure to be have success in finding something perfect for a client at the last moment. I went to see my fellow-art-major client, who is now a 5 minute walk to work and a 10 minute walk through the public garden to school. She’s got a charming studio with separate kitchen area and happy yellow bathroom, too. She reports it’s a nice quiet apartment. I met Maggie as she was having ‘worst day ever’ & worked quickly to get her application in order shortly before September 1st for a move-in on that day. It was a move within the neighborhood, so not a long haul, but still stressful as she knows that finding an apartment in Beacon hill is challenging.
